Vanessa Garza is a Chicago-based artist and the creator of the Stardrops, an ever-growing cast of small, expressive characters that have become her signature body of work. What started as a simple desire to create something recognizably her own has grown into something with real depth. Each Stardrop now carries its own story, in an unfolding whimsical world built around themes of discovery, faith, and the magical mysteries of life. 

 

Her work lives on mural walls across Chicago from Lakeview to Pilsen to the Magnificent Mile, made possible through collaborations with spots like Soho House Chicago, Cafe Tola, and The Shops at North Bridge. Extending beyond public art, her work has been featured through limited edition pieces and illustrative works for names like Walmart, the Chicago Bulls, and Chicago Fire, with coverage along the way from PBS, CBS, WGN, and more. 

 

There’s no telling what form the next piece may take, but one thing is certain: a new Stardrop is still waiting to be discovered and painted into being.
